On becoming a homebody

Writer's picture: aymexumeaymexume

I'm a world traveller who now comfortably wears the label of homebody. And this has me all in my feelings.

In the past 29 weeks—yes, it's been 29 weeks since my city went on lockdown—I've spent more time wandering around my home than I have in the past 5 years.

Before all of this, I travelled internationally 3 to 4 times a year. I also spent a good amount of time outside of my home (working, hanging out with friends, etc.).

Recently, I took a week off of work. I made all sorts of plans to enjoy the less strict pandemic-related restrictions. Restaurants. Museums. My options seemed limitless.

Yet, I stayed home. I spent most of my time chilling on my couch, thinking about home decor and decluttering.

Me.

Of course, I blame this on the pandemic!

While I try not to let fear dictate how I live, I have let the risks of contracting the virus deter me from going out. I'm taking the necessary precautions (mask weay, hand washing, physical distancing), but I also limit non-essential outings in public.

To make matters a bit more complicated, social interactions now drain my energy. Me! The (somewhat) social butterfly. It's the weirdest thing. It's as though I'm no longer used to hang out with people.

Have you taken the time to see how this global pandemic has changed you? If so, do you care to share in the comments below?
